GCA Board Briefs

Narrative from the April 7, 2025 Grayhawk Community Association (GCA) Board of Directors meeting can be viewed here.  Board meetings are held on the first Monday of most months at 5:30 p.m. hybrid via Zoom or in the Talon Room. More information regarding meetings can be found on the community website.

Turf Transition

Grayhawk’s landscape will have a more abrupt switch from Ryegrass to Bermuda turf this year, commonly called a quick or hard transition. Typically, landscape vendors chose a slow transition method - a gradual process that lasts from the beginning of April through the end of June. But when warm weather arrives, the Ryegrass competes with the dormant Bermuda for sunlight, water and nutrients. This competition can result in a sparse, weak Bermuda crop. A hard transition provides more days of growth for the Bermuda to establish and sustain itself, typically creating a stronger crop of Bermuda.

You can read more about this transition process and what to expect is this document from DLC Resources, the Grayhawk community landscapers.

Paint Colors at the Click of a Link

The Architectural Review Committee created color palettes for each neighborhood in Grayhawk. Homeowners needing to paint can now view these color palettes on the Dunn Edwards Color-Ark Pro any time or by stopping the GCA Office during regular business hours to look at color books.

Bees

Bee swarms are very common this time of year. Bees swarm when part of a colony breaks off due to reproduction or space constraints. They may look like a hive, but are usually in search of a new home and will not stay long! You can call the GCA Office at 480-563-9708 and patrol will put out signage to alert passersby.

Updated Transponder Policy

Residents in the Retreat Village Association (RVA) use transponders for community access. The RVA Board of Directors recently approved an updated Transponder Policy, prepared by the Operations Committee. This policy also includes updates for Short Term Transponders. You can read more about the updates here.

Our Desert. Our Home.

Victoria now has a website and a weekly Substack newsletter about desert plants and desert landscaping.  Both are called Our Desert. Our Home.  These work together, with her Substack newsletter published every Wednesday morning and driving the narrative, and the website featuring plant photos and detailed descriptions of the plants themselves. Pop over to the website and subscribe to the free newsletter to learn more about the beauty that surrounds you!
