Natural Area Open Space (NAOS)
Grayhawk's landscape contractor, DLC Resources, will be clearing NAOS area along the perimeter of homes in some areas of the Retreat Village this week to prepare the walls to be painted.
NAOS (Natural Area Open Space) is a requirement that is part of the City of Scottsdale Environmentally Sensitive Lands Overlay (ESL). The NAOS requirements are designed to preserve the desert in its natural state. That means that no building, clearing or excavation of any kind can take place in areas designated as NAOS. Per the City of Scottsdale NAOS brochure: NAOS maintenance is limited to the removal of man-made debris, wash obstructions, invasive plants including desert broom, parasitic plant growth only as it relates to the health of the host plant, and the creation of defensible space as recommended by the Fire Department. Dead plants, such as saguaros that have fallen over, serve as animal habitat and are to be left in place unless it is determined that they pose a health and safety concern.
If you have any questions about NAOS, please call the GCA Office at 480-563-9708.
